Located in the Thomas Condon Student Centre at the University of New Brunswick Saint John Campus, the Baird Dining Hall is located on the mail level of the building with spectacular views to the distinctive Saint John terrain surrounding it.

The mandate for the dining hall was to improve an existing food service facility and its dining area while servicing a new All-You-Care-To-Eat dining program. The dining hall and food service area both received improved layouts and finishes ensuing in an elevated dining experience. Rather than using only conventional floating furniture, new millwork furniture is designed, oriented, and sculpted to define new spaces in the dining area. The primary typology of communal seating is used to deliberately promote scholarly exchange. New acoustic pendant lighting is used throughout the hall to outline these new seating areas and playfully contrast the existing concrete ‘egg-crate’ ceiling. Both millwork and lighting are oriented to follow the existing architectural geometries of the building’s western facade and in turn, encourage lines of sight toward the unique outdoor geography including the Saint John River.
